It’s Friday so I just want to share a quick tip about breakfast cereal. If you look at the price on the shelf cereal has gotten very expensive. Most brands are $3.50-$4.00 a box. However, I have set my own price – I only buy if I can get it for under $2.
It’s actually pretty easy to do and I get cereals that my family like. Here’s how I do it:
- I make sure I always have coupons for cereal in my coupon binder. General Mills and Kelloggs regularly run coupons. There are often coupons for specific cereals such as Cheerios, Special K, Cinnamon Toast Crunch etc. I like to keep multiple copies.
- I print store coupons when available (such as Target) for cereal.
- When I’m at the store I cruise the cereal isle and look for what’s on sale. Match it up with a coupon and SCORE!
- If it’s under $2 I stock up. I usually pay $0.99 to $1.50 per box for cereal.
I’m sure other crazy coupon people can get it lower, but I don’t want to put in the time and effort, nor am I willing to really stockpile a lot of cereal. I think 4-8 boxes in my pantry at a time are plenty!
